The site is an effort to break through to parents and students on the dangers specific to fake prescription pills and contaminated common "street drugs", that are killing our teens and young adults at terrifying rates. This 4 minutes will likely be all you need to understand that this indeed can happen in your family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI85SlXyaFc
The idea is to have our local teens record audio only voice tributes for teens and young adults that have been lost to drug poisonings. The audio only recordings would be played at a variety of venues. You can hear an example of a tribute here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WtOqyNpkYo
Currently it has been suggested the the following venues would/could be appropriate for distributing these recordings:
Sporting events at schools, Played over the school pa system weekly, Other school events, Community events, Arenas, Ice rinks, Stadiums, Theaters, Local radio stations, Dr. Offices, Local business, ect. The list continues to grow as we get more feedback.
The belief is that once this effort has been in place for a period of time, and parents and students have heard different tributes for multiple young people many times, we can get many parents to act, and young people to listen.
If you have never heard the word "Fentanyl" before, please visit: The New Drug Talk for an easy to digest description of this epidemic and how to talk with your loved ones on this topic.
Twenty to thirty students and young adults die in this country every week from drug poisoning. Far, far to many in the 14-16 year old range.
Please consider joining us by refusing to wait for another of our local teens, students or young adults to die, before we act.
The idea behind the tribute page is that their will eventually be dozens of students and young adults shown(then hundreds), for our local students to chose from to create a tribute. We started with four. We have thousands of victims to chose from ...
The students can record the tribute right on their phones, while reading the text, and submit the recording directly from this site.
Next steps are to put this in front of a select group of teachers and students for assistance with development, if possible/interested.
Creative writing and journalism students to assist in writing tributes, web development students to help with "studentizing" the digital aspects for wider acceptance, and video production students for a future video aspect of this effort.
That's pretty much as far as we have gotten. The first hurdle is to build a play list of tributes, and for that we need students to act.
Your feedback is appreciated. Please submit all feedback to info@tribute4teens.org
